Spotlight Use of Risk Control Grant Funds

An automated external defibrillator (AED) purchased with DVT Risk Control Grant funds played a critical role in saving a life in New Hanover Township. On June 20, 2026, a New Hanover Township police officer responded to a cardiac arrest involving a 55-year-old resident. Working with an off-duty medic, the officer moved the patient to the floor, immediately began CPR, and continued chest compressions while the AED was applied. After the AED delivered a shock, the patient began showing signs of life and ultimately regained a pulse and consciousness. The patient was transported to the hospital and later released. This incident demonstrates the direct, life-saving impact of DVT’s Risk Control Grant Program and the importance of investing in emergency response equipment.
