Air Quality Risk Alert

Wildfire smoke from Canada and Minnesota will blanket Pennsylvania and Delaware this Friday, July 17, 2027, creating Code Purple concentrations of PM2.5.

Members and residents are strongly encouraged to check www.airnow.gov for current conditions in their area. Current local conditions could be more severe (Code Maroon) or less severe (Code Red or Code Orange) depending on your location at any given time. Memebers and residents should make informed decisions on their outdoor activity based on the conditions at the time.

During Code Purple Air Quality Alerts all members and residents should avoid long or intense outdoor activities, and sensitive groups such as children, elderly residents, and those with respiratory illnesses should avoid all outdoor activities. All residents are encouraged to move activities indoors.

Members should consider these Protection and Safety Guidelines:

  • Stay Indoors: Limit outdoor activities and keep windows closed during poor air quality events.

  • Indoor Filtration: Use portable air cleaners or upgrade HVAC filters to MERV-13 or higher.

  • Reduce fine particulate matter air pollution by:  Avoiding use of gas-powered lawn and garden equipment, burning leaves, trash or other materials, burning candles, use of gas stoves without ventilation, or vacuum, unless using a vacuum with a HEPA filter, smoking and vaping. 

  • Outdoor Protection: Wear a fitted NIOSH-approved N95 respirator if you must go outside in smoky or polluted air.
