Position Description
The DVT Marketing and Communications internship is a professional skills internship to assist the Member Services team in implementing organizational communications and marketing strategies. The Marketing and Communications Intern will gain experience in building internal/external relationships with business partners and the local government community. The intern will also gain experience in professional writing, graphic design, event planning, and communication strategies. This position reports directly to the Chief Relationship Officer. The primary responsibility of the Marketing and Communications Intern is to support the promotion of organizational events and ongoing communication with stakeholders and staff. Other duties may also be assigned as needed.
Duration and Compensation
The internship will run for 10 weeks in the summer, from June to August. Start and end dates are flexible based on the intern's academic year. Intern will be compensated at $15/hour.
Duties
- Assist with drafting newsletters and e-mail communications
- Website review and maintenance
- Assist in developing social media strategy and presence
- Support team with developing creative marketing strategies, campaigns, and collateral pieces
- Assist with special events and annual meetings, including planning and execution of such events
- Research marketing strategies and proposing adjustments to current strategies accordingly
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for marketing and communications
- Attend and participate in stakeholder meetings, special events, presentations, and brainstorming sessions as directed
- Any other duties as assigned by the Chief Relationship Officer
- Apply the principles of public relations and communication in a not-for-profit organization
- Create materials that can be included in a professional portfolio
- Exposure to community leaders and businesses
- Increase knowledge of local government and insurance sectors
- Gain experience in project management

Education and Experience Requirements
- Experience in public relations or a related field with skills in graphic design, social media tools and platforms, and written and oral communication
- Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
- Self-starter, good time management, creative, and ability to work independently and in a team to fulfill organizational goals and initiatives
- Professional appearance, clear speaking voice and excellent interpersonal skills are required
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office software
- Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design a plus
